You and your horse are a team Why not go for walks with your pony but you leading him on the ground instead of riding. This way you both get fit and you strengthen your leg muscles ready for your next show. An extra bonus is that you and your pony can bond by walking together like a herd of horses would in the wild. |
Fill the water buckets!!! It is essential that we can control our pony's head when leading or riding so therefore we need strong arm muscles. Lifting buckets of water is a great way to tune your arms and help at the yard. However, make sure that the buckets are not too heavy for you so try taking 1/2 a bucket of water first and then another 1/2 a bucket second to top it up |

Push the wheelbarrow Atop rider needs to make sure that she has a strong stomach to keep balanced even if their horse spooks or refuses a fence. Try pushing the wheelbarrow and feel those stomach muscles working. This is a great and useful way to stabilise your body. |
Get the horses in from the field Walking to the field and back a few times will get the blood pumping. It is a fantastic way to keep fit and it will help your yard manager loads!!! |

Muck out Yes, we know it is a pain but it has to be done. It can also keep you fit. Using the pitch fork and carrying the straw and shavings really works your arms, especially if you have to do a whole stable block |
Sweep the yard Using the brush in a sweeping motion is a fab way to work your whole body and keep the yard tidy!!! You don't need to sweep too much to feel the benefit so let your friends do some as well. |
