1. Make sure your pony has at least 2 rugs this winter so that if one gets wet he at least has a dry rug for the next day.

2. Put over reach boots on your pony's front hooves so that he doens't lose a shoe in the mud.

3. Prevent mudfever by always washing the mud off your pony's legs when he comes in from the field and then drying them with a towel.

9. When your tack gets wet the best thing to do is to let it dry naturally and then go through your normal tack cleaning routine.

10. Add a bit of warm water to your pony's food. This will be a real treat for him.

11. If your pony is in his stable a lot more because of the weather, make sure he doesn't get bored by giving him licks and toys to play with.

4. Keep warm down the stables this winter, invest in a warm, thick jacket, hat and scarf to make sure you feel toasty no matter what the weather is doing. You could even wear a pair of tights under you jodhs or some tracksuit bottoms over the top of your jodhs.

5. Always have you mobile phone with you. Don't get stuck down the yard for hours in the cold because you forgot your mobile and you don't have transportation

13. Keep a change of clothes down the yard incase you get completely soaked while out on your pony.

14. Mucking out in the winter can seem dull so why not take your Ipod or MP3 player and listen to your fave tunes while you work

15. If your pony is fully clipped and needs to keep very warm in the stable you can put a duvet on him under his normal stable rug.

6. Hang up any wet rugs to allow them to dry and air. There are special rug hangers that you can buy. Robinsons have a good selection.

7. Exercise sheets are a fantastic way for you pony to keep warm and dry this winter when you are out riding.

8. Apply hoof moisturiser when it is very wet to prevent any problems.

16. Make sure your pony is getting enough hay in the winter months, especially if he lives out. It is very important that he doesn't lose a lot of weight.

17. Don't let dry cracked hands spoil your time down the yard. Try putting some hand cream on every night to ease and prevent soreness.
